In today's class, we watched holliwood movies and disney movies which inflicted a negative impression of Arab. For example, the intro song of Aladdin had lyrics saying                            " Oh, I come from a land -  From a faraway place -  Where the caravan camels roam. -  Where they cut off your ear -  If they don’t like your face -  It’s barbaric, but hey, it’s home . " I believe that lyrics such as "they cut off your ears - If they don't like your face" gave thoughts of Arabians being terrifying and horrifing people to young childrens who were watching Araddin and singing the song repetedely at that time. Adding to this, we watched parts of holliwood movies such as "Reel Bad Arabs". Most of these movies had scenes of Arabians having  knifes, guns, bombs in their hand and harming people. At first, I didn't know much about how holliwoods and broadcasting programs would represe...

As the lesson started, we saw a news article from new york times. The article said" More than 67 Palestinians, including 16 children, have died since the start of the   conflict   on Monday, Palestinian health officials said. The rockets fired by Hamas and its Islamist ally, Islamic Jihad, killed at least six Israeli civilians, including a 5-year-old boy and one soldier ." A lthough the number of palestinians dead was larger compared to Israel civilians, they didn't discribe how they died which made the readers not being able to understand the situation clearly. On the other hand, the new york times descirbed the Hamas as, the rockets was fired killing at least six Israel civillians, including one children and one soldier. This sentence describes clearly how they were killed and marks out the age and jobs of the killed few. After discussing with the people around me, we watched few more videos showing a 10 year old girl asking the media what they have done to deserve thei...

The class started unusuall as only people living in Yokohama was able to enter the classroom at first. Following on, those who had their ID cards with themselves was able to enter the classroom. Gradually, the rest of us were able to enter the class. However, only the ones living in Yokohama was able to sit on a chair and the rest was told to line up at the back of the classroom without blocking other's sight. I was confused what was going on. Time just went on going until Mr.Paterson finally allowed us to sit down on the chair. He explained that the situation we experienced just now was exactlly the same as what the palestinians are experiencing there everyday. Once the light of the classrom was turned off, the projecter screen showed a video of a palestinian family forced to leave their house by a random Israel man. Normally, strangers shouldn't have any rights to take away one's belonging. However, the man in the video counterargumented to the family that the man will b...

Today, we watched a short video about the reality of the relationship between the media and the truth. America's farmer started to use a chemical called Recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone (rBGH) on cows which had the affect of increasing the amount of milk the cow could produce. Once the safety was confirmed by the U.S. Food and Drug Adminisstration (FDA), many American farmers injected this chemical to its cows to increase their profits. However, it turned out that the milk from the rBGH cowm wasn't tested enough and was found out that the milk from the injected cow had human health affectness such as cancer. Despite being scientifically proven that the milk product had health affectness by other country's scientist, the company didn't tell the media and hide the fact within their company. As a result, most of the American citizens continued buying these milk products without knowing that it had health affectness. Luckily, this incident was solved by the brave action t...

In today's class, we were given advice based on on our self photo taking. Mr.Paterson mentioned elements such as angle, brightness, focusness, object, eye sight, background and more.Out of all these elements, he focused on the bacground and told us how important this element was.Regardless of whether the clothing is casual or not, I was realized that the background will influence a huge difference in what the viewer's first impression will be. Before the lesson ended, we all went outside to take pictures of our school ourselves. When I compared the photos taken by myself and the rest, the image of the school was quite different. The photo with a nature in it made me have a influence of the school being free and relaxing. However, the photo showing only the school building gave me an image of a normal and comfortable environment to study.
