Because we had an extra lesson on Wednesday, those who were attending the class on that day were asked to share what we did to those who were not present in the class. Mr.Paterson seemed to have wanted to know how well we remembered the incident and how specifically we could explain to others. As I explained the incident to other people, I found it quite difficult to explain as clearly as possibe. Adding on, I had some fear that there could be some mistakes in my explanation which could lead in others to obtain incorrect information. After sharing with others, Mr.Paterson mentioned us a incident called "Byopal disaster" which occured in India in 1984. This incident occured by when a toxic gas was leaked from a Bhopal pesticide plant of US company which killed more than 4,000 people and injured about 400,000. The cause was technical, structural, and human negligence due to the reduction of operating funds. Following to the overview, we were told about the background. Union Carbide India Limited, the cause of the incident, was a part of the Union Carbide Corporation which is an American chemical company. However, once the incident occured, Union Carbide Corporation stated that Union Carbide India Limited had no connection with them and required no responsibilty for them.
By the end of the lesson, I recalled back both the "Ecuador Oil Spill"and the "Byopal disaster" incident. Regardless of both of these being a serious and a critical isuue, I hadn't n heard of the name before . From the past two lessons, I was realized that there was a need for me to widen the range of my knowledge of the precedent occuring in the world arround me.
