WH book review (chapter4~6)
Today, I started continuing reading from chapter 4. The book started off by Manjiro having a argument with the other japanese fisherman disscusing on whether their decision to board the american whaling vessel was right or not. Foreigners were said to be demons and barbarians for them, so everyone besides Manjiro were not agreeing to Manjiro's idea to have board the ship. Moreover, they were worried about weather they could return back to their home countery which is closed from foreigner. Of course, the 5 Japanese fishermans didn't know how to speak English, so they had a hard time understanding what the opponent was saying at first. Furthermore, the crew of the american whaling vessel couldn't ask their individual names, so Manjiro was named "Munk". After drafting in the sea for several days, one of the whaling vessel crew saw a splash ahead of the ship. It was a whale. As the slay of the ship, Manjiro was demanded to board the small ship and kill the whale. Due to the experience of fishing in Japan, Manjiro was used in killing fishes and killed the whale as what the crew members had oredered him to do. After seeing his skills, the captain of the whalling vessel ship, Captain Whitfield suggested Manjiro to become a official crew. (1/3)
